The Gelfling girl the swamps raised, who speaks to every creature in them.
Orphaned by a Garthim raid, Kira was rescued and raised by the Podlings, the small potato-shaped people of the swamp villages. She grew up fluent in their language, in Gelfling, and in the wordless tongue of animals, who come when she calls. Landstriders answer her. So does anything with ears.
She travels with Fizzgig, a small furry thunderstorm with too many teeth, and when she met Jen she joined the quest that would decide the fate of Thra. She is the practical one of the pair, and the reason it survived the journey.
- Girls have wings. Jen learns this the useful way, in mid-fall.
- She can summon Landstriders, the fastest legs on all of Thra.
- Fizzgig disapproves of nearly everything, loudly.
